Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Clean Up Tool (VSP1CLN.EXE)

With the release of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) will have a new tool called "vsp1cln.exe" which is a clean up tool that removes the archived files after a Windows Vista SP1 install. If you run this tool then you will not be able to uninstall Windows Vista SP1 from your computer. The "vsp1cln.exe" is located at "c:\windows\system32".

How to Run the VSP1CLN.EXE Tool

Online Mode

  1. Open an elevated Command Window, refer to "Opening an Elevated Command Prompt" blog article for instructions.
  2. Type:

    vsp1cln

  3. Type Y to start the clean up process.

Offline Mode

  1. Open an elevated Command Window, refer to "Opening an Elevated Command Prompt" blog article for instructions.
  2. Type:

    vsp1cln /o:e:\windows

    NOTE

    The above command assumes the offline location of Windows Vista is at the root of drive E. If you have the Windows Vista image mounted at "e:\VistaMount" then the command would be:

    vsp1cln /o:e:\VistaMount\windows

  3. Type Y to start the clean up process.

  • Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, x86 Versions
